About this scheme

CRISS is a CAP 'front loading' mechanism that redistributes income support from larger farms towards medium and smaller farms. It is paid to all active farmers on the first 30 hectares of their holding, at a rate likely to be in the region of €40-€43 per hectare depending on uptake; payment is not linked to the number of payment entitlements an applicant holds. To qualify, an applicant must submit a BISS application declaring farmland within the jurisdiction of Ireland and apply for CRISS as part of it, be entitled to payment under BISS while holding at least one (or part of one) payment entitlement, and meet the scheme's definition of an 'Active Farmer'. CRISS is not a standalone application: farmers apply for it via agfood.ie alongside their BISS application, either directly or through a Farm Advisory System (FAS) approved advisor.

Who can apply

  • Must submit a Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) application, declaring farmland located within the jurisdiction of Ireland, and apply for CRISS as part of it
  • Must be entitled to payment under BISS and hold at least 1 payment entitlement, or part of one
  • Must meet the definition of an 'Active Farmer'

How to apply

  1. Apply for CRISS as part of your Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) application — it is not a separate application.
  2. Submit the application yourself, or employ a Farm Advisory System (FAS) approved advisor to submit it on your behalf.
  3. Apply online by logging in or registering at agfood.ie.
  4. Submit by the scheme closing date (stated on the page as midnight, 29 May 2023).
  5. If your login or password has expired, contact the Department's Agfood Online Services Helpdesk to renew it.
