Pig and Poultry Investment Scheme
The Pig and Poultry Investment Scheme (PPIS), part of TAMS 3, funds new equipment to upgrade pig and poultry units, supporting animal welfare compliance and energy efficiency. Grant aid is paid at 40% of eligible costs up to a €500,000 investment ceiling, which includes (and draws down) the standard €90,000 TAMS 3 ceiling shared with most other TAMS 3 schemes.

About this scheme
PPIS helps pig and poultry farmers purchase new equipment to upgrade their units, supporting compliance with animal welfare legislation and encouraging energy-efficient measures that improve competitiveness and agricultural incomes. Grant aid is paid at 40% of approved, completed and eligible expenditure, up to a maximum investment ceiling of €500,000 — notably higher than the standard TAMS 3 ceiling. This €500,000 ceiling includes the €90,000 ceiling shared across the other seven TAMS 3 schemes, meaning use of the PPIS ceiling reduces the amount available under those other schemes (with the exception of the standalone Low Emission Slurry Spreading Scheme and Solar Capital Investment Scheme ceilings, which are unaffected). Unlike most TAMS 3 schemes, the €500,000 ceiling does not increase for registered farm partnerships — it remains €500,000 regardless of the number of eligible partners. The minimum eligible investment per application is €2,000, and multiple applications per tranche are permitted. As with other TAMS 3 schemes, applications are made online via agfood.ie and are assessed and ranked against published selection criteria each tranche.
Who can apply
- Applicant must be a pig or poultry farmer purchasing new equipment to upgrade pig and/or poultry units on their farm
- As with other TAMS 3 schemes, applicants are generally expected to meet the standard baseline requirement of a minimum of 5 hectares declared under BISS/BPS (or equivalent) in the year of application or preceding year, or a minimum of 20 production units for intensive enterprises (not explicitly restated on this page, but consistent with the TAMS 3 Terms and Conditions structure)
- Minimum eligible investment per application is €2,000
- Multiple applications per tranche are permitted, subject to the applicant's remaining investment ceiling
How to apply
- Register for the Department's online services at agfood.ie if not already registered.
- Submit the application online via agfood.ie, either yourself or through an authorised agent; multiple applications per tranche are allowed, each subject to the €2,000 minimum investment threshold.
- Applications received in a tranche are assessed and ranked against the scheme's published selection/marking criteria.
- On approval, complete the works within the timeframe specified in the approval letter, notifying the Department in advance of key construction stages where required for certain investments.
- Submit the payment claim online with all required supporting documentation (receipts/invoices, tax clearance, relevant quality certificates, etc.); grant aid is paid at 40% of the lowest of the reference cost, invoiced cost, or proposed cost, up to the relevant ceiling.
