About this scheme

Enterprise Ireland's Energy and Environmental Aid Fund provides aid to facilitate the development of Irish economic activities that improve environmental protection. It is aimed at businesses seeking to accelerate the adoption of low carbon, efficient and sustainable production practices, providing a capital grant for impactful environmental projects that deliver transformative change in emissions reduction, energy efficiency, low carbon production methods and resource efficiency. It can be used to embed climate action as a strategic business priority, significantly reduce emissions in support of Ireland's 2030 climate action target, improve the environmental performance of existing facilities, deploy new production capacity to the highest low carbon and sustainability standards, and support technologies for CO2 reduction, electrification, circularity and water efficiency. It is aimed at client companies of Enterprise Ireland or Údarás na Gaeltachta engaged in manufacturing and/or Internationally Traded Services. No specific funding percentage or maximum/minimum grant amount is published for this offer; it is a limited, discretionary fund where not all eligible projects may receive aid, assessed and sized on a case-by-case basis.

Who can apply

  • Must be a client company of Enterprise Ireland or Údarás na Gaeltachta, engaged in manufacturing and/or Internationally Traded Services (ITS), as set out in Services Order 81/2010
  • Under GBER Common Provisions, aid cannot be granted to sectors excluded by the GBER (e.g. Undertakings in Difficulty, undertakings with an outstanding recovery order, aid contingent on the use of domestic products, primary agriculture production and fisheries activities, export-related activities); undertakings active in both eligible and excluded sectors must keep separate accounts
  • Applicant must demonstrate the aid has an incentive effect (i.e. the project would not take place without the aid), shown by: the project meeting Enterprise Ireland's Value for Money (VFM) criteria (cost per tonne of CO2 abated for decarbonisation projects, or traditional VFM measures otherwise); a written application submitted before work on the project starts (costs incurred before the written application cannot be supported); and completion of the Payback calculation requirements
  • Each individual aid award exceeding €100,000 will be uploaded and made visible on the European Commission's website, in line with EU transparency rules

How to apply

  1. Read the eligibility requirements
  2. Contact your Enterprise Ireland Client Advisor or the Enterprise Ireland Sustainability Department to discuss the proposed project
  3. Submit a written application for the aid before any work on the project or activity starts, since costs incurred before the written application cannot be supported
  4. Demonstrate that the project meets Enterprise Ireland's Value for Money criteria (cost per tonne of CO2 abated for decarbonisation projects, or traditional VFM measures for non-decarbonisation projects) and complete the Payback calculation requirements as part of the application
  5. If approved, receive a Letter of Offer/Grant Agreement confirming the approved aid and project terms, then carry out the approved environmental/decarbonisation project
