About this scheme

With decarbonisation policy, rising energy costs and shifting consumer expectations putting sustainability at the top of every business agenda, GreenPlus helps Enterprise Ireland client companies prepare for a greener, more sustainable future by increasing environmental management and staff capabilities. It can fund training to build environmental management capabilities, implementing environmental best practice within the company, hiring an external environmental service provider, external training courses, e-learning digital content licence costs, and part of the salary cost for up to 10 staff working as part of a company 'green team', over a project typically lasting 12 months. It is aimed at SMEs and Large companies that are Enterprise Ireland clients (HPSU clients are excluded for 3 years after receiving Enterprise Ireland investment funding; non-clients under 50 employees should approach their Local Enterprise Office instead). It provides grant funding of 50% of eligible project costs, up to a maximum of €100,000 in eligible costs (a maximum grant of €50,000). It is also offered in parallel by Údarás na Gaeltachta to its own clients under the same terms.

Who can apply

  • Must be an SME or Large company that is an Enterprise Ireland client
  • HPSU clients in receipt of Enterprise Ireland Investment funding are not eligible for 3 years after the investment
  • Non-clients of Enterprise Ireland with fewer than 50 employees are not eligible here and should instead contact their Local Enterprise Office
  • Application and associated expenditure will not be accepted if the company has already initiated a GreenPlus project before applying
  • Company must provide its organisational carbon footprint as part of the application (via the Climate Toolkit 4 Business Carbon Calculator, GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, ISO 14064-1 Standard, or similar) and submit a completed Training Plan (emailed to green@enterprise-ireland.com)
  • Eligible costs: external training/advisory services (daily rate capped at €900, inclusive of travel, subsistence and all out-of-pocket expenses; actual market-rate costs may be higher); salary cost of up to 10 company green-team members, subject to a maximum of 20 trainee days per trainee (with up to 5 people supported for up to 40 days), at a maximum assisted rate of €200 per day, and internal project team costs must not exceed external trainer/course/material costs; training course fees for specialised external courses under 30 days' duration; and licence costs for e-learning digital content for the project period
  • Ineligible costs: training required solely for national mandatory-standard compliance (e.g. health & safety, first aid, manual handling); training that would happen anyway in normal business operations (e.g. induction, market overviews, basic internal systems training) since State Aid requires an incentive effect; use of Training Aid to subsidise normal business operations; training already supported by other State funding (e.g. Skillnet); technical feasibility studies, capital costs, general consultancy (market research, content development, IT implementation, financial review and planning, HR consulting); and legally required activities (e.g. mandatory reports/audits under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive)
