About this scheme

The Non-Domestic Microgen Grant (NDMG) is a government grant administered by SEAI to help businesses and other non-domestic organisations install solar PV panels and generate their own electricity on site. It's designed to cut commercial electricity costs, strengthen energy security, and support Ireland's climate targets. Grant funding is available for systems from 1kWp up to 1000kWp, ranging from €1,800 up to a maximum of €325,200 depending on system size. This follows a sliding scale based on system size: €1,800 for a 1-2kWp system, a max of €4,800 total for systems up to 6kWp, then €600/kWp for 7-20kWp, €400/kWp for 21-200kWp, and €300/kWp for 201-1000kWp, up to the maxium value at 1000kWp (1MWp). To apply, you appoint a Registered SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Solar PV Company, agree a contract, and apply online for a Grant Offer. Once installed and all documentation is submitted, payment typically follows within 4-6 weeks, subject to possible inspection. This enhanced rate for the Non-Domestic Microgen Grant was announced in Budget 2027, and will be in place until July 2027.

Who can apply

  • Open to businesses, the agricultural sector, public sector bodies, schools, community centres, and non-profit societies
  • Solar PV system must be sized between 1kWp and a maximum of 1000kWp to be grant funded
  • Applicant must appoint a Registered SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen (Solar PV) Company and agree a formal contract before applying
  • Applicant must not start works until a 'letter of offer' is received from SEAI
  • Installer must apply to and receive approval from ESB Networks before installation begins
  • Not eligible if the installation has already received SEAI support for a solar PV system under another scheme (e.g. Better Energy Communities, Domestic Solar PV, EXEED, Micro-generation Trial)

How to apply

  1. Find and appoint a Registered SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen (Solar PV) Company: select a preferred installation company from the SEAI register, get quotes from several registered companies, and agree a formal contract before applying for the grant.
  2. Apply to SEAI for a Grant Offer online, then wait for a 'letter of offer' before starting any works; grant offers are valid for eight months from the date the letter of offer is received.
  3. The appointed company applies to ESB Networks to connect the solar PV system to the electricity network before installation; this takes at least 4 weeks / 20 working days.
  4. Once ESB Networks approves the connection, the solar PV system is installed and the applicant pays the solar PV company or agrees a payment plan.
  5. The solar PV company submits evidence of the completed works and all required documentation to SEAI electronically.
  6. SEAI processes the grant payment once all documentation has been uploaded, allowing 4 to 6 weeks for payment (longer if an inspection is required); a Tax Clearance Certificate is required if total grants/subsidies received from a government department or public authority exceed €10,000 in a calendar year.
