About this scheme

The Support Scheme for Energy Audits (SSEA) helps SMEs access a professional energy audit, which reviews a business's buildings, processes and systems through a three-step process of preparation, a site visit and reporting, to identify how much energy is used, which equipment or processes use the most, and what actions could save energy along with estimated costs and impact. SEAI provides a €2,000 voucher towards the cost of the audit, which in most cases covers the full cost. Application is straightforward: businesses select a participating auditor from SEAI's Registered Energy Auditors list, register online, and receive the voucher automatically by email once eligibility is confirmed, with no manual review step. The auditor then carries out the audit and claims payment directly from SEAI once the report is issued to the business. All Registered Energy Auditors on SEAI's list must meet rigorous quality standards, though SEAI accepts no liability for the audit itself.

Who can apply

  • Applicant must be a "non-obligated entity" under Article 8 of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (as transposed into Irish law via SI426) - either a small or medium enterprise (SME), or a public sector body with a useful floor area of less than 500m2 and spending less than €35,000 per year on energy
  • Must be tax compliant
  • Must be registered in the Republic of Ireland
  • Must spend at least €10,000 per year on energy (excluding transport energy costs) at the site being audited
  • Limited to 1 audit voucher per applicant/company
  • The audit must be carried out by an auditor from SEAI's list of Registered Energy Auditors who is participating in the SSEA scheme

  3. The voucher, containing an Application Number, is issued automatically by email.
  4. Schedule the audit with the chosen auditor.
