About this scheme

The Capital Grant supports enterprises making an initial capital investment, covering both tangible assets (land, buildings, plant and machinery) and intangible assets (technology transfer via patents, licences or know-how). Grant rates of 35-50% are available, up to a maximum of €75,000, with the exact rate and cap depending on business size and location. Grant aid cannot be approved retrospectively; funding applies only from the date the Letter of Acknowledgement is issued. Payment is made on receipt of a valid claim supported by documentation confirming approved expenditure was paid. As with other Údarás schemes, applicants must implement a language plan promoting the use of Irish in the business.

Who can apply

  • Business enterprises engaged in, or proposing to engage in, manufacturing or in eligible internationally traded services (per the Industrial Development (Services Industries) Order 2010)
  • Must propose an initial investment in tangible and/or intangible assets
  • Initial investment includes: setting up a new business; extending/developing an existing business; diversifying output into new, additional products; or a fundamental change in the overall production process of an existing business
  • Eligible costs: tangible assets (land, buildings, plant and machinery); intangible assets (technology transfer via patent rights, licences, know-how or unpatented technical knowledge)
  • Two grant rates apply depending on business size: micro-enterprises (fewer than 10 employees, turnover or balance sheet ≤€2m) can receive 50% of eligible expenditure up to a maximum grant of €75,000; small businesses (fewer than 50 employees, turnover or balance sheet ≤€10m) are typically funded up to 35% of the investment, with the exact rate also depending on location under EU Regional Aid Guidelines
